Entry 54

Here is a sestina I have ever tried writing:

Hollywood Indian films are all the same, focusing on lies,
Drawing on stereotypes that lead to their demise.
Starring a white actor, to gain sympathy
Otherwise no one would pay money and the film would not be seen.
Producers are not concerned with portraying their culture;
Rather just concerned with profiting on screen.

All Indians are drunk, or so in the films this is how they are seen
They run around with no ambition, disregarding viewer sympathy.
They all seem to struggle to avoid their demise,
Seeming incapable of surviving to add to these lies.
Maybe one day Indians will actually be on screen,
With roles that are justified to represent the Indian culture.

But even when Indians make their way on screen,
Their roles are shortened and they are hardly even seen.
So they are placed in the back, to emphasize the Indian culture,
While the white man plays the lead to maintain sympathy.
How long will we continue featuring these lies?
How much longer until these film’s demise?

I’m sick of films focusing on gaining white man’s sympathy,
Instead put more attention to filming the wonders of their culture.
I want to get a glimpse of what we would have seen,
If living with their culture, behind the screen.
Maybe then a film wouldn’t be focused on its demise,
But portrayed accuracies without any lies.


I want to see the truth that led to many of their demise,
Instead of what producers choose to show and fill their film with lies.
The damages from focusing on stereotypes on screen,
Is that Indian people are viewed as a drunk, uneducated culture.
Why focus on the white man’s view and gaining sympathy,
When an educated Indian film would be widely accepting and seen?

Its time for justice and to see the real Indian culture,
Without profit determining who acts on the screen.
Its time to show their culture without any lies,
Before it’s too late and these films lead to their demise.
Will this occur? We must wait for it to be seen,
If Hollywood will ever stop focusing on gaining white-man sympathy.

Come one, come all, when ending their demise,
Lets showing Indians on screen, actually to be seen!
Indian pride, Indian rule, down with white-man sympathy!
